Baby Acne – Symptoms and Causes

Overview

Baby acne appears as small, red bumps on a baby’s face, neck, back, or chest. It typically shows up within 2 to 4 weeks after birth.

These bumps are different from acne that affects teenagers and adults, as they aren’t caused by the same type of bacteria.

Some babies develop tiny, white bumps called milia on their faces. These harmless spots will go away on their own after a few weeks without treatment.

Parents might confuse baby acne with benign cephalic pustulosis (BCP), also known as neonatal cephalic pustulosis. This condition results from the baby’s skin reacting to yeast and looks similar to acne.
